Global Insurance Law Connect Announces Winners of Inaugural GILC Academy

Date: Tuesday, April 8th, 2025 by Michaela Hickson.

Global Insurance Law Connect (GILC) is delighted to announce the six emerging insurance lawyers selected for the inaugural GILC Academy programme. Following an exceptionally strong pool of applicants from GILC’s global network of member firms, these outstanding professionals have earned a place in the prestigious initiative.

The selected participants are:

• Amanda Barbieri Estancioni Cano, Santos Bevilaqua Advogados (Brazil)
• Arne Hansen, Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein (Germany)
• Dion Morley, Duncan Cotterill (New Zealand)
• Erica Filby, Sparke Helmore Lawyers (Australia)
• Magnus Guderud, Advokatfirmaet Riisa & Co (Norway)
• Yvette Jiang, Buren (China)

The GILC Academy was founded to foster international collaboration and knowledge-sharing among insurance law professionals across GILC’s member countries. As part of the programme, participants will travel to London on 10th May for a week-long experience hosted by UK member firm Beale & Co. During their stay, they will gain firsthand exposure to the UK legal landscape, spend time at Beale & Co, visit Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading insurance market, and explore diverse legal perspectives to enrich their professional practice.

Gillian Davidson, Chair of Global Insurance Law Connect, commented:

“This programme embodies the cross-border collaboration that defines GILC. As our network continues to expand, the Academy allows a focus on supporting the emerging talent in our member firms.

This is an incredible opportunity for six exceptionally talented insurance lawyers to immerse themselves in different professional cultures, integrate international knowledge into their work, and establish lasting global connections. I encourage them to embrace this experience to the fullest, and I wish them every success.”

To earn a place in the programme, applicants were required to be nominated by a partner at their firm and submit a compelling business case for their participation. Their applications were reviewed by the GILC Board and the GILC Academy subcommittee, who assessed the candidates’ potential to benefit from and contribute to the programme.
