Sparke Helmore Lawyers launches consulting arm

Date: Monday, April 1st, 2019 by Michaela Hickson.

Sparke Helmore Lawyers (Sparke Helmore) is delighted to announce the launch of its consulting arm, Sparke Helmore Consulting Pty Ltd (SHC).

Sparke Helmore Consulting has been established to spearhead Sparke Helmore’s growing move into allied services. With an initial focus on providing Tax Advisory and Strategic Business Consulting to complement the core legal services currently provided to clients, SHC will offer seamless integration between legal and non-legal services.

Transactions Advisory and Tax Controversy work will form the core of the Tax service, recognising the increasing level of scrutiny around tax strategies, governance and risk management. The focus of Strategic Business Consulting will be deal support including project management, planning and execution, aligned with the demands on organisations to grow, change and optimise business outcomes.

Phillip Salem, National Managing Partner, said “Sparke Helmore Consulting is an exciting addition to our business and will open up many opportunities for our clients to work with us on a full-service capacity. Launching this business has been a priority on the firm’s strategic agenda and is an important milestone in our growth trajectory.”

Jonathan Doy has been appointed CEO of Sparke Helmore Consulting. Jonathan was a Senior Partner at PwC and Crowe Horwath and before that was a Principal with EY. He has worked with leading local and international companies across all major industries with extensive specialist knowledge of tax and the broader business implications of transactions as well as Australian Revenue Authority compliance interactions and disputes.

“Creating a new business entity made sense as the next step in the evolution of allied services at Sparke Helmore. I’m thrilled to be the CEO of this young business, providing exceptional service to a growing list of clients, working alongside outstanding legal colleagues,” said Jonathan.

SHC is registered with the Tax Practitioner’s Board, the national body responsible for the registration and regulation of tax practitioners. It does not have an AFSL, and will not provide financial or investment advice.
