26 June, 2017 – Global Insurance Law Connect launched today with member firms in seven countries who focus only on insurance law. Each member firm can efficiently and effectively serve its clients’ global needs by offering an extensive network of local lawyers with specialised knowledge.
Founder member firms are Batini Traverso Grasso & Associati (Italy), BLM (UK), Byrd & Associates (France) and Foran Glennon Palandech Ponzi & Rudloff PC (USA). Other members are Blanco & Asociados (Spain), Khaitan Legal Associates (India) and Santos Bevilaqua Advogados (Brazil).
A cornerstone of the offering is 14 special legal and risk interest groups sharing expert knowledge with clients across classes of business such as product liability, D&O, marine, energy and cyber. Additional groups will be added as the network grows in the next six months.
Mike Brown, Chairperson of Global Insurance Law Connect, said: “We were all inspired by client demand. With a highly competitive rating environment, every underwriter is looking for income growth in new markets or from new products – extending their businesses into the unknown. As well as protecting their income, re/insurers need to examine their cost base to improve their margins. The insurance industry is asking for specialist advice across multiple markets and delivered in a collaborative manner.”
Alberto Batini, partner with Batini Traverso Grasso & Associati commented “We have built an organisation that can advise re/insurers, brokers and policyholders on the business of taking risks. The ability to offer a wide range of deep expert knowledge in lines of business such as product liability and cyber illustrates clearly how we can harness the power of our connectivity to help reduce the time and money spent on managing those risks”.
Jennette Newman, partner at BLM said “Our network is as much about shared values as depth and reach. We want to reach the right results through mutual support, a clarity of purpose, challenging the conventional and promoting inclusion, equality and diversity in all aspects of the network”.
Jim Glennon, partner with Foran Glennon, the US member firm, noted: “Over the past year and a half, we have gotten to know the principals from the other founder firms to ensure that all member firms are committed to providing the insurance industry with an excellent work product in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The network also made sense since many of us share common clients. In fact, we have already worked jointly with other member firms on matters that obtained successful results for our clients”.
Robert Byrd, partner with Byrd & associated added “In difficult market conditions, re/insurers, brokers and policyholders want the comfort of knowing that they are dealing with firms that can offer the broadest network with stringent due diligence and rigorous quality control. It gives comfort that they can access the right advisers in the right places in the right way”.
